Variations, 2005

This video installation consists of three video films that are shown beside each other simultaneously. In those two films that are exhibited at the sides, different parts of body can be seen, and in the middle one, a woman is displayed behind a semitransparent door. In this work, parts of the body, which one usually refrains from exposing, are displayed in much bigger sizes than the real dimensions, while the complete image of the woman who is completely veiled, is being indistinctly shown in long shot from behind an etched glass. This work instigates different and paradoxical feelings in the viewer. While its erotic attractions are being revealed, it may also seem repulsive or disgusting; that is how the viewer gets involved in a variety of enthusiasm, satisfaction and avoidance. The “Love song” soundtrack intensifies all these inconsistent feelings as well.
